New York City can be an exhausting place. Life can be stressful for many of its residents. Fortunately, Central Park gives a great place to get away from it all and simply rest. The park has many areas of it, to suit the mood of any tourist or local.

History

The idea of central park came from elite rich New Yorkers in 'high society' to improve their image. The park was constructed to convince Europeans that America was not a greedy, materialistic country. This would serve as a place for the rich and poor alike could get away from the city lifestyle and enjoy fresh air.

Although it may not seem it, Central Park was entirely man-made. It was designed in 1858, which was an Industrial time for the city. It was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux as a great public park.
