The Rules

  • Each player likes their character in one peice. Remember never to harm another character without consent from the controlling player. I'm sure no-one would like to come back from RL, only to find their character has become choice chunks of Rancor feed.

Likewise, you can't do something to a character unless they have an escape route. For example, you can swipe your sword at someone, but not slice their head off.
  • If a situation occurs where a player is stuck because of another character, then you can appeal to have them moved without consent. This will very rarely happen, but if you do get stuck then give me a shout at the bottom of this page.
  • Remember that people have subscribed to certain threads to find out what's going on there, so be considerate by not jamming up the threads with Out Of Character conversations.
  • It's good to know what other people are upto, and it's great reading about them to, but remember your character doesn't know. Your character can't be psychic through any means. In turn, if something's happening you can't run off and join in (as much as we'd all love to) because it doesn't make sense. However, you can ask someone Out Of Character to contact you so you can arrange to go there.
  • You'll notice that several players are of higher ranking then you. This means that they've probably been playing a lot longer and are pretty experienced when it comes to RPG's. So please accord them the respect they deserve and they'll be more than happy to help you.
  • There's several ranks of Jedi. The top three are Master's Apprentice, Jedi Master1, and Grand Master2. We're the ones who'll be running each of the storylines as and when they happen. Because of this certain rules don't apply to us (like free will). Don't panic though - we will never harm your character to the point of death. Just be prepared to loose and arm or two...
  • When creating a new thread (although you should leave thread creating to the masters) try to start it with OR: unless it is a specific place (like a ship for instance). This avoids confusion with another Star Wars game on h2g2.

The Master Mac'lar rule

Everyone likes there charecter to be individual. However, no one likes it if someones charecter is the best at something. An uber swordsmen whose just joined the academy, and is better then everyone else for instance.

This is usually a sign of a power gamer, and usually ends up ruining a good thing if not kept in check.

To dicourage this we have the Master Mac'lar. Grand master Mac'lar is an NPC who floats about Coruscant, as he runs the academy there. He runs all the jedi order, and simply is the best swordsmen and force user in the galaxy bar non.

If you create an uber charecter, you will be warned to tone it down. Three warnings and Mac'lar will turn up and execute your charecter. This mean that your charecter is dead, gone for ever, 6 foot under ground etc etc.

However, if you agree to tone down the charecter, then you will be allowed back in.

Please bare in mind i wont make a decision to kill a charecter on my own. Ill be consulting all the masters first before a decision is made.

Its a sad thing to need something like this, but a necessary one unfortunately.

Basic Tips

Be polite to people, whether they outrank you or not. It is a general rule of thumb that the nicer people are, the easier a text based RPG becomes.

If you get involved in a big fight (more then two people) then the best thing to do is try and back of. Whilst id love to do an epic star wars battle like in attack of the clones, the preacticality of it in a text based RPG means it wouldnt work. Such things are enevitably filled with simulposts, sabres swinging where they should3. To avoid this theres a basic solution. Against NPC's of no status (unnamed soldiers, mr civillian etc) you are free to take control and dispatch of them in a maner you see fit. If there an NPC with a name, ask before you kill/wound (this will either be met with a straight yes, or a no you have to fight me4). If the charecter is a Player charecter, then you fight as normal. You can swing and attack all you like - on the condition that your opponent has an escape root that doesnt end in a grisly demise. Remember play sensibly; fights can soon become enourmous confrontations as one player tries to out fight the other, and huge amounts of force power and invincible swordsmen ship quickly appear.

This is pretty much the first step to power gaming. Usually you'll be fighting a master anyhow which prevents this, but amongst yourselves accord each other a level of respect by rank. It doesnt matter if in your back ground you were the greatest swordsmen in the entire galaxy - if your a novice an apprentice is still able to beat you.

One final note. There may be times when a master will ask you to move away from a fight. While this is really annoying, its usually for a good reason. What most people remember from Star wars are the duels (Maul vs obi-wan, Obi-wan vs vader, vader vs luke etc), so thats what backing off will create. Not only that but the duels will nearly always affect the game itself. If you've been told to back off you've gained a lot through just watching

1Anthea and Reefgirl2That's me, by the way, asmodaidark3By this i mean a simulpost, where someone jumps up into the air only to be met by a sabre swinging towards them rather then anything... well you get my drift4Because the charecter will either be a skilled fighter or alternatively be needed for the plot
