Extended information

Alderaan is one of the most influential planets in the old Republic. Its outlying prinipalities and colonies provided an unending source of munitions and soldiers during the Sith war.

With victory came the spoils of war, and Alderaan became a centre of the arts and education. Scholars from across the galaxy came to Aldera1, the planets capital, to study the galaxy. Indeed many of the greatest scientists in the galaxy came from Alderaan, and nearly all of the scientific team sent to Endor came from or studied on Alderaan.

All these resources fall under the direct control of the rulling Royal family on Alderaan. All transport, military, education, exports, even food produce is under the control of the Royal family. Whilst this has caused tension in the past, it is the accepted norm now, with high society receiving the best of everything from those with upmost authority.

This has caused a huge rift in the populace. The upper class lead a life of luxury, there every whim catored for. Whilst the multitude of those on Alderaan live in hunger. The rich are well protected from the lower classes by vast personal bodyguards, and the red and gold armour of the palace guards is a familiar and striking site on Alderaan. It is said that even the lower classes see them as gods amongst men, and several of the Palace guards are known to have originated in the slums and squallor.

The rulling Royal family on Alderaan has ruled there Empire for the best part of eight centuries. They have held an iron grip that internal rebellion, family madness, and crippling disease have failed to loosen. The strict and at times brutal rulership has caused both resentment and adoration from all parts of society in equal messure. The current ruler is King Malachi. He has only ruled Alderaan for a short time2 and it is whispered in circles that he is a sickly child, whose soon to die. However the boy king is not naive. He rules under the watchful of Advisor Soryan.

There are some that have claimed that Malachi isnt the true ruler of Alderaan, and it is in fact Soryan that holds power. Whilst many who've uttered this have met with a swift and painful death, Mariyus is one who still dares. His actions in the Mandalorian wars were the stuff of legends, and the people of Alderaan hail him as a hero. He took an active part in the Sith war alongside his two sons. By the end of the war both of his sons were dead and Mariyus was partially blinded. This made him even more popular, and not a man nor woman on Alderaan would deny him anything. Indeed he rose from the lowly peasentry to live in Aldera amongst the nobles. Yet the common folk regard him as there own, and he still feels he is there protector.

Yet Alderaan has troubles. With no hier to leave his kingdom too,
the boy King in his sickend state is could very well die and leave his nation in total ruins. The upper class refuse to acknowledge Mariyus as pure blood, and the common folk have little regard for Soryan. Alderaan is poised for a bloody and brutal civil war.

Locations of note

1Aldera is where the Royal family take residence. With the cities position in the middle of a lake, the unruly common folk are kept firmly at arms length2The previous king died during the Sith war, leaving his son ruler of a powerful empire
