Groundhogs

North American rodents traditionally believed to have the ability to predict the seasons, if not the weather. Popularised by movies such as Groundhog Day and vilified by their continually inaccurate predictions, one such groundhog, Canada's official groundhog, died in 1999 and was not discovered until weeks later when its remains were too decomposed to be presentable for public viewing. A dead albino groundhog body double stood in for it and the people of Canada remained blissfully happy. (Apparently this is their normal state anyway).
