Fit, not fat

Spring has finally sprung, my holidays are past, and it is about time I started to shed some excess weight and get fit at the same time. And so last week I started my personal fitness training. So far, I have mainly cycled, but I intend to vary a bit and add some jogging, walking, and maybe even swimming exercises. I'm trying to cut out on carbohydrates while not feeling as if I was on a diet. A friend of mine very aptly described the effects of dieting thus:

I don't do diets. Whenever I tried I was obsessed with food. I couldn't think of anything else, and I was already chewing on something before it was even time for breakfast. I gained weight instead of losing it.

I think she is right, and that that is one of the many reasons why so many diets end in disaster.

Somebody else said that it's not a good idea to adapt your life to some diet, but that you should choose a diet that fits in your life. And I think, that you shouldn't think of it as a diet, but as of a change in eating habits. Anyway, I don't have a set time in which I want to reach x. The more pressure I put myself under, the more I do just about anything to avoid it, and that would lead me nowhere.

So, what are your fitness plans now that the weather has improved? If you intend to go cycling more, have a read of Bluebottle's blog which you'll find below – together with lots of other brilliant articles, as usual. Enjoy.
