Synagogues Remember

A wall of remembrance for victims of the Holocaust

Milla was in Prague for a conference, but she took time to visit some of the local synagogues. Pinkas Synagogue has an exhibit of children's art from Terezin (Theresienstadt) ghetto. It also has a wall of remembrance that lists names of those lost to the Holocaust. All the walls were covered with names, even on the upper floor gallery and in the anteroom.

Blessing inscription from the Jewish cemetery in Prague

This blessing inscription was on a gravestone embedded in the wall at the Jewish cemetery. The cemetery space was limited, so the burials were done in layers. Old graves were pushed up as new ones were dug.

These stones have such memories. Milla points out that she visited three of the five synagogues within a radius of 300 meters (a quarter of a mile).
