Me and the Galaxy

this is the boring bit

Since you are here I guess you are either wondering about me or are lost.1

Well I'll try not to waffle too much, but if you must know I read the hitchhiker's books probably around 2002/3 and I have never looked at a mouse, a dolphin, a towel or a cup of tea the same way since. I have to say that I immensly enjoyed reading the books, and I even went as far as to purchase the TV series (shudder) and the original radio series (as well as the new radio series which cover the 2 final books) which is quite excellent. I have also seen the film, which, despite being funny and containing many classic Hitchhiker gags, I found too far removed from the radio series and book versions for my liking. I have also read the Dirk Gently books. I think Douglas Adams was, and is, one of the great philosophers of our time. He is a constant source of inspiration still, undoubtedly to many people, and the world is at a great loss without him. After reading The Salmon Of Doubt I truely realised how intelligent, persuative and easy to understand his writing is. I read somewhere that Douglas had intended to write a sixth book in the Trilogy, and since Mostly Harmless has a bit of a bleak ending I regret that this book was not written because I have great faith that it would have been a truely excellent read.

A while ago I picked up a copy of Last Chance To See, Douglas' book about endangered species which he wrote with Mark Carwardine. It is said to be Douglas' favourite book although it is not nearly as famous as the Hitchhiker's series, which is a shame because it was an excellently informative and wonderfully entertaining book.

Here are some other, more random things about me;

  1. Just in case you were wondering I am a guy
  2. I like discussing things, especially religions
  3. I like the sea, the rain and the colours green and blue
  4. One of my hobbies includes building model railways and then pretending I am a giant (which is not hard being 6' 3")
  5. I like pizza and Minis. Especially Minis!
  6. I like to think the world is all connected in some bizzarely inexplicable way, but in a natural way, not a religious way
  7. I hate prejudice and having to get up in the morning
  8. I love randomness
  9. I have the sumwhat unerving ability to go completely unnoticed when I am around other people (this sometimes comes in very useful)
  10. If I was alive in the 60's then I would probably have been a hippie
  11. I live on Jersey which is a very nice place, but if you say anything along the lines of it being so small that everyone there knows everyone else there I may be forced to hurt you. Such treatment will also be administerred if Jersey is confused with New Jersey. Yes, there was a Jersey before the Americans nicked our place names. There's also a York.smiley -
  12. The phrase "Don't Panic!" is one of my all-time favourite quotes2!
  13. I always like to know where my towel is.3smiley - winkeye

Possibly the best EVER link that I've come across in my time here! Big thanks go to U1519700 for pointing in out to me and to U152404 and U180656 for making it happen.

Although I'm a little peeved that they only mark out the streets in the major UK areas. What's wrong with my island? We do good potatoes!smiley -

And now I am going to talk about something that annoys me. The 'who's online' button. It doesn't work if you just want it to show you who's online in h2g2 because it shows who's online over the whole of the DNA servers. This has annoyed me for a while, so I have incorporated this link into my space to see who's online on h2g2 only.

An introduction to Spectre of the H2G2 League of Super Powers.
The H2G2 League of Super Powers
˜ ˜ ˜
˜ ˜ ˜
"With Great Powers We Can Have Great Fun!"

The second son of a seemingly normal family, Spectre was raised as any other child would have been. However at a young age he was known to be different. He suffered turbulent teenage years owing to those who tormented him and became a recluse, absorbed in his studies. He acquired a knowledge of science and technology that is unrivalled, but he devoted himself to the world of Law in an effort to awake the political world to the horrors that it could prevent, and to bring justice to those that preyed on the innocent and the weak. Deciding also to use his vast knowledge to aid in the pursuit of justice he fashioned himself complex weapons and and gadgets and, under the new garbe of Spectre, sought to rid the world of crime once and for all.

A picture of Spectre can be seen here.

This is a wonderful little page about, well, everything really. The whole sort of general mish-mash that is H2G2 with some terminology and other links thrown in. Enjoy!

It occurs to me often that I spend far too much time searching for links to pages that I don't remember the name of, so, mainly for my benefit but for yours too (I like sharing smiley - ), I have included here some links to helpful, useful or interesting pages around H2G2.

This page shows all the entries that have been on the front page in the last month.

This page shows what's gone through Peer Review, been picked by a Sub-Ed and is in the queue for the front page, in other words all the entries that are coming up.

This is a link to the wonderful world of the fictional Edited Guide equivalent, the Underguide.

This is where the all-new, all-singing, all-dancing technical wizards reside who run the AViators.

That's all for now folks, come back later and there may be more. (it says *may*. I am making no promises.smiley - )

You know what else occurs to me right now? This page is rapidly running out of colours.smiley -

Your Birthdate10: February 6
A birthday on the 6th of the month adds a tone of responsibility, helpfulness, and understanding to your natural inclinations. Those born on the sixth are more apt to be open and honest with everyone, and more caring about family and friends, too. This is a number associated with responsibility and caring - this birthday lends a degree of concern for others.
What Does Your Birth Date Mean?
This is the new-fangled birthdate thingy but the old one is still here because...well...does there have to be a reason for everything?

Your Birthdate: February 6
You tend to be a the rock in relationships - people depend on you.
Thoughtful and caring, you often put others needs first.
You aren't content to help those you know... you want to give to the world.
An idealist, you strive for positive change and dream about how much better things could be.

Your strength: Your intuition

Your weakness: You put yourself last

Your power color: Rose

Your power symbol: Cloud

Your power month: June

And this is my fish. I wanted to get one from the Fish Adoption Scheme but I think they are out of comission at the moment, so i caught my own 11. His name is Squishy after the jellyfish that Dorey named in Finding Nemo (I love that film!!!). He can also sing.

Hello Galigan. I had something to say about your page/I wanted to talk about something/I think you're a really hoopy frood and I like your guestbook gadgety thing.

And now you have reached the end.
